Droning Expert

While this Spiegel interview with a "defense expert" is interesting in and of itself, notice how he tries to have it both ways. In the beginning, he insists that the remote quality of drone warfare is at least as, if not more, stressful and emotional than conventional combat, and then at the end claims that such war is a kind of entertainment.

It's definitely an interesting piece. My first impression was what can be more stressful than potentially becoming dead but I can see a potential point here, at least from a psychological standpoint. For the soldiers in the field, they have pretty direct contact and it's a kill or be killed scenario which may help mitigate some of the psychological impact. Here there's no danger to the operator, so they don't have that same emotional response to help buffer them.
