Ron gets a no-prize that still has all its fingers for bringing us this graphic (but not gross!) demonstration of the "SawStop", a very valuable safety option for table saws. I seem to recall hearing about these quite some time ago, but I'd never seen anyone with the guts to actually try it themselves. And, while I can't blame the guy, it looks more like he touched the side of the blade than the teeth. Meh, still pretty spectacular stuff. I certainly wouldn't want to use a table saw without one.
Saw this on the Discovery channel show Timewarp. Yes the finger touched the side of the blade, but the demonstration was also done with a hotdog pushed right into the blade while on top of a board being cut by the saw. Result was the same with barely a nick in the hotdog.
Impressive to say the least, but the SawStop is pretty much a 1 time use, ruining the blade, as well as the stop mechanism. Both would have to be replaced before the saw could be used again.
Small price to pay to keep a finger.
