I will now officially upgrade magpies to "damned dangerous":
Anelderly woman has been forced to have her leg amputated after it became infected and then gangrenous when she was pecked by a pet magpie.
This article includes a picture of an example of the miscreant.
Hey maw! Fetch me my shotgun!
Posted by: Mark on November 3, 2008 06:52 PMMy grandfather's brother was a rancher in South Dakota. We used to hunt antelope on his place. He hated magpies. Before I was old enough to get an antelope tag, but old enough to carry a 22 he would pay my cousin and me 10 cents for each magpie we would shoot, and he supplied the ammunition. After a morning antelope hunt when the adults were spending the afternoon eating and snoozing on the porch my cousin and I could earn around a buck a piece without ever getting out of sight of the house.
Course you had to be really careful where you were shooting. One day my cousin missed the magpie and shot the side of the barn. After he shot the magpie which hadn't flown away my great uncle paid him the dime he owed him then tanned his rear for being so stupid as to shoot towards one of the buildings.
