It would seem the F-35B is quite close to its first flight. I don't think the Navy has shown interest in this variant, which is too bad. The things a flight demonstration team could do with this, I can only imagine.
Who do you think is going to buy the things??
It's for the Marines and last time I checked the Marines were still part of the Navy (Going to put them on thier baby carriers)
Posted by: jeff on June 2, 2008 12:33 PMLast I checked, there were no plans for the Blues to use Harriers. Something tells me the same will apply to the F-35.
Posted by: scott on June 2, 2008 12:36 PMHmm
Do you mean Blue Angles??
The Marine Corps is a part of the Navy.
The Marine Corps is ordering these planes to replace thier Harriers.
Why would you put these planes on a normal CV when you have the F-35C (Specifically built FOR the Carriers)
Posted by: jeff on June 2, 2008 04:50 PMNever mind I just noticed where you posted the things a flight demo team could do with them.
I thought you were saying the Navy showed no interest in the plane.

Posted by: jeff on June 2, 2008 05:02 PMWe're already up to F-35B?
So what happened to the F-35A variant? Not being produced?
Posted by: Mark on June 3, 2008 09:20 PMF-35A = Air Force variant
F-35B = V/STOL Marines/RAF variant
F-35C = Navy "big deck" carrier variant
The -B model is the real challenge. They've had a pretty hard time keeping the weight from ballooning up and erasing their payload capacity.
