It appears that Viking women dressed rather differently before they converted to Christianity:

Of course, considering the climate, it may also be likely they gave it up because Sweden is frikkin cold! But that's just me.
yeh, I think tender nipples adhering to metallic breast plates in the g-d icy subartic climate would probably be a cause for "concern" among said Wiking wimmins long before those bad ol' Christians went and ruined everything for everyone.
