Here We Go Again

Looks like someone else is going to take a run at the NFL. Their plan is to run their first season in 2008. At first I thought, "ah geeze, not another one," but after RTFA, the guy does seem to have at least some business sense. Certainly with so many untapped large media markets, there would seem to be an opportunity here.

That's an interesting idea he's got, but it's definitely going to be a hard run to get there. One of his key reasons is that certain NFL teams aren't located in major markets - unfortunately for him, I don't think that's a big deal. Aside from the national televising, some of those markets haven't done well with teams (LA for one) for various reasons. Another is some of those markets either have a strong college team or have had an established franchise in their general region (San Antonio has The Dallas Cowboys and the Houston Texans - even though the Texans suck).

As long as he doesn't try to have the games at the same time as the NFL, he's got a chance. Especially if he went after the summer market - then he'd be cutting into baseballs viewership. And since baseball sucks as well, that simply wouldn't matter.

Hell, I'd even watch it then.
