An asteroid may come uncomfortably close to Earth in 2036 and the United Nations should assume responsibility for a space mission to deflect it, a group of astronauts, engineers and scientists said on Saturday.Astronomers are monitoring an asteroid named Apophis, which has a 1 in 45,000 chance of striking Earth on April 13, 2036.
The UN?!? What the shit are they going to do? Send it a sternly worded email? Hell, they'll still be debating about how the asteroid coming this close is the sole result of the USA not signing the Kyoto Treaty when it hits. And then it'll be our fault for not letting them know it was going to hit prior to it happening.
Alternatively, this could make gl0bal warming a not important, no?
