Which gamer stereotype do you best fit? I've never taken the damned things all that seriously, but I definitely recognize several of them from the various messages boards I've read over the years. It always amazes me the amount of emotional commitment someone will invest in a $50 piece of software.
It's not just the money we spend on the games, or the machines we play them on. It's the *time* we spend playing them that makes them important. Time is the one commodity we can never get back, once spent, and everyone wants to think they spent their time doing something important, or at least interesting. That's why everyone tends to obsess over their little hobbies, whether it's something as cool as belly dancing, or as geeky as (something that starts with a V and rhymes with shitty-o, as in, "Man, this spam filter is shitty-o.") gaming.
