Is there some kind of special occasion behind this gallery of the grotesque, or was it just because some goth wannabe complained that the site was too cheery?

why a trip to the Museum of Medical History of course! :)

Apparently to them, showing pickled children is OK, but to get to see the pickled Civil War soldiers is just not heard of.

Ah, cool. Been to the Smithsonian a few times, but I don't think I've ever been to the Museum of Medical History. I should look it up, next time I'm in the area.
