Welcome to the World of British Understatement

Wherein a spider as big as an adult's hand is merely termed, "large":

A tarantula-like spider which has been biting an elderly man in his sleep has been in his house for several weeks, according to the RSPCA.
...
The arachnid is described as being as large as a human hand.
...
[RSPCA spokesman Gethin Russell Jones] told BBC Wales' news website: "He's quite an elderly gentleman. He noticed a large spider months ago when he bought [a box of bananas].

Suddenly those guys who unload the grocery trucks in our area seem a lot tougher than I'd previously thought.

I could have gone all day with out that story. The image of waking up and seeing a tarantulla running across the wall is just too much.

This is why Americans are allowed to have shotguns. You see something like that in your house, you lock, load, and fire with reckless abandon.

"Never play an ace when a two will do."

Or in this case, never blow holes in your house when a rolled-up newspaper will do.

With a spider that size, we're talking about several rolled up newspapers, encased in steel. With a long handle.

On top of that, spiders are devious little bastards. They jump. So, you use some nice, light birdshot, minimize the holes (drywall is easy), and you've no spiders.

Would this be a good time to mention the time, back when I worked at a fruit store, that we got the South American Bird-Eating Tarantula in the box of bananas?

Or the times (yes, multiple) we got black widows in the boxes of [small round fruits]?

(One time with egg sac. Yikes.)

EDIT: Your filter does not like the word "gr4pe" but with an "a" instead of a 4. It ignores the G and thinks I'm saying something "questionable".

Why do you even HAVE that filter?

Was set to filter "rape", a long time ago. I thought I'd gotten all of those too-general regexp's out long ago, but apparently I missed one. Gone now.
