It's Gizmoriffic!

Pat gets a fiddly no-prize for bringing us this review of the latest in "fusion" technologies, the Olive Symphony. I've read about this thing before, but not quite in so much detail. At $800, it's too rich for me (for now). However, there are a lot of extra-cost items, like a wireless access point, which could be deleted to reduce the price. Hopefully it'll be successful enough to pay down their R&D investment, allowing them to eventually cut the price and still remain profitable.

Then again, those stupid iPod things are still what, more than $300?

Otr you just get an FM transmitter and hook it to your computer. Why have multiple places with MP3s when you can have it one one firewire drive which would be available to plug into any computer and you are good for any stereo.

All this is far less expensive than 300$

Joshua has a good point - or you could just copy/download all the songs you want on your PC's hard-drive, get a good soundcard and a good set of speakers - viola, you got tunes. And lots of them. Along with different playlists, etc.

the FM transmitter is a nice touch as well.

Basically, it sounds like someone out there just tried to make $800 by adding a few features to what any decent PC and Realplayer can already do.

The FM transmitters we tried didn't have the range to get from where the CPU was to where the hi fi was.

hi fi? who calls it a hi fi? and wouldn't some cables help with that? In fact, iffin' I really wanted, I do believe that I could run a normal stereo RCA cable from my PC to my receiver and 'kick out the jams (all you brothers and sisters)' that way.

It is a neat device, in the way that most new devices are neat - but all it's doing is charging me $800 for something I've already gotten for free.
