Not quite "Man Bites Dog", but close:
Cats are blamed for triggering asthma attacks in humans but veterinarians in Scotland say it may also work the other way around.Irritants such as cigarette smoke, dusty homes and human dandruff can increase inflammation in feline lungs and worsen asthma in cats.
It'd just add another cycle of pills to what "the land of the misfits" already take. I swear these cats are on more meds than three senior citizens put together.
hmmm - dunno about your cats (I just watch TV when Amber has to pill them), but I know ours are rather medicated as well. Especially my dog, who's now getting
-prescription food [ID for those in the know](of which I have $80 sitting around because he can't eat those[ZD and a venison/potato mixture] anymore - he now has to have this other new $40/bag food)
-levothyroxine
-prochlorperazine (short term)
-glucosamine, chondroitin, and MSM
-amitryptiline
-clindamycin (short term)
-metamucil mixed into his food
-piroxicam (short term)
Toss in a cat that gets bupronex and two other meds, one that gets 'special' insulin, and we're right up there with you. We've a frickin' pharmacopia here.

We see so many cats come in to the cat hosp with lung problems from people who smoke. From asthma to lung cancer- there is usually a smoker in the house in the cats we see with this.
Posted by: ellen on October 19, 2005 10:13 AMI am adding Humira tomorrow. It is a rhumatoid arthritis medication that I will have to inject my self every two weeks. I am afraid to ask how much it costs. I still take more meds that the kitties but if I didn't have insurance I could not afford most of them.
Posted by: Pat on October 19, 2005 10:24 AMMy cats...get kibbles. If they are good boys, they get meaty-foods.
Posted by: DensityDuck on October 19, 2005 12:18 PMDD - ours get meaty foods occasionally - they catch mice. And proceed to devour them, leaving the fun parts (half the head, an eyeball, the pecker-bone, etc.).
Of course, they have to work for this stuff.
