I fail to see the big achievement in catching the shark. Does it make us smarter, richer, or what? We just succeeded to ruin another life. Haleluya!

The achievement isn't so much in catching the shark, it's keeping it alive. Why? Because this means we are having a greater understanding of the shark and how it interacts with its environment. The better we understand it (and all creatures), the better we can understand the total environment and the impact we as humans make.

Thusly, this is a big deal. Sharks are apex predators and thusly, very important to the overall food chain. Understanding them definitely helps improve our overall knowledge.

And knowing is half the battle.

One of our readers making a cogent, cool-headed, and rational argument. Good Lord.

18th sign of the apocalypse.

What's next... cats and dogs sleeping together?!?

"Understanding them definitely helps improve our overall knowledge."

that knowledge also helps people see the creature as more than a 'killing machine.'
