When Traction Attacks

If you're not into blogging, you probably haven't heard much about the "Kerry in Cambodia" fiasco, but the blogosphere is all over it like stink on virtual poo.

Personally, I think it's about as interesting as Bush's "did he or didn't he serve in the National Gaurd?" fiasco of a few months back, so it has done nothing to sway me in either direction. All politicians say and do stupid things to keep their jobs, and anyone who's shocked by it isn't paying attention (which is to say, most of you). But the last time the blogosphere got its jaws on a dumb politician saying a really stupid thing that big media chose to ignore, it cost Trent Lott a job. This has the signs of turning into that, and for Kerry supporters it would be a very, very bad thing.

Wow - I went a-searching for articles from the group about this and I came up with nada from CNN, the Washington Post search engine was down, but nothing showed up in other searches and a general search of the web came up with lots of posts, but no news articles. While agree that this is probably not a huge issue on the overall, I would like to see it blow up in Kerry's face - just because I'm mean-spirited that way and all.

Also, research did come up with a very interesting site were a bunch of Kerry's former compatriots are absolutely slamming him - and they dissect his Navy FITREPS and show how his CO's and OIC's spent their time warning his future commanders that he was basically a shitball unfit for command. The site is below:

Follow the financing to see where all this "stuff"is coming from. These are the same people who still think Jane Fonda should be in chains over her politics about the same war.

Well, I don't know if I'd say anyone should be in jail for their politics - as long as their actions were legal.

However, I do seem to remember a story about her conduct in the Hanoi Hilton that is rather questionable - something about the prisoners passing her notes covertly and she then turned them over to their jailers - leading to beatings...

However, the biggest assertion here is that Kerry is lying about his service, which is his only hope to be seen as a capable commander in chief. If he's lying, that brings into question his capability (note, I didn't say his ethics - politicians, by very definition, are all liars, just that some are better than others...).

Ron, I repeat: Follow the money and see who has the most to gain.

Posted by: Pat on August 10, 2004 07:28 PM

Well, I looked on the site and couldn't find anything that disclosed finances, so I'm thinking that you're talking about Republicans or big business getting the money. Is that correct? I'm just trying to clarify as I'm really not sure which money trail that you've asked me to follow.

BTW, when are you coming up again? As I remember it from last time, you were going to try and beat me with a stick - so I just want to make sure Scott and Ellen don't have anything handy...

The ultra conservative right wing of the Republican party is who to look at. I cannot remember the names but I know where to find them.

I will be up for Christmas and then again for the big wedding in April.

I promise you I won't leave any permanent marks. lol

Pat,

Given your posts in this comment, am I correct in assumming that you'd never, not in a million years, consider driving a Volkswagon?

"It's easy to tell who actually committed 9/11. Just look at who has gained the most from it."

"You don't mean..."

My comments were about the "Kerry in Cambodia" nonsense that is the current feature on all the cable news networks, Tatterdemalian. Nothing what so ever about the 9/11 attacks.

I currently drive a Chrysler and constantly am teased by the webmaster of this site about my insistance on buying "American"

No, I make fun of you because you felt the National Gaurd thing was important and earnestly covered, but you seem to think the "Kerry and Cambodia" stuff is nonsense.

You treat your cars the same well Ellen does... self-propelled closets :).

Do you mean that car trunks are not intended as extra storage? lol

One of the names mentioned on the "Dodging to Canada" comments is one of the right wing wacko guys in my follow the money comment. One Richard Mellon Scaife.

It's funny watching leftists desperately trying to miss the point.

Posted by: Tatterdemalian on August 12, 2004 01:15 AM

And the point is? Please enlighten me Tatterdemalian! I am many, many things but not entirely leftist.

Posted by: Pat on August 12, 2004 09:47 AM

If you really didn't get the point, you wouldn't have felt the need to answer to my post, and certainly not in so sneering a fashion.

By all means, keep insulting my intelligence. It makes you look so marvellously petty.

Posted by: Tatterdemalian on August 13, 2004 10:55 AM

We are not communicating very well. I really meant no insult at all, I really wanted to understand.

Posted by: Pat on August 13, 2004 04:31 PM

Okay, then...

The simple fact is that the "who has the most to gain" argument is only valid if you assume there is no such thing as unintended consequences. It is, by itself, completely worthless as any kind of proof. Said once, it's a funny joke, but when it's repeatedly asserted (and those who point out the absurdity of the argument are singled out for verbal abuse), it's just sad.
