"Homeland security defeats an alleged terrorist plot."

Heard on a local news station this afternoon. Yeah, I know, seems reasonable enough at first blush, but think about it... alleged?

I'm glad they're not just blindly assuming. Alleged is a common enough word for breaking crime stories. And I wouldn't put it past a) Homeland Security to lie, or b) government intelligence to be in error. It really seems justified.

The press has to use alleged to avoid lawsuits. We have grimey ass money grubbing lawyers to thank for that and oh-so-many other things that have fucked up the system.
