"Hooked" on a New Pastime
Now, I'm all for consenting adults doing whatever they want to each other, but I reserve the right to be weirded out by it:
Law enforcement officials in the Florida Keys are mystified by a bizarre new pastime -- young people dangling themselves from meat hooks on a popular sandbar.
Just when you thought people couldn't... well, ok, no... that story awhile back about the guy running a classified ad because he wanted to eat someone and getting an answer was way weirder than this. But still..
I'm not personally familiar with this enough to say it's definately the same, but it sounds like the suspension demonstrations and stuff that go in at some club events in Cleveland. I read the article, and I'm like, this is news?

Posted by: Ron on July 20, 2004 04:41 PMHell, I know at least one guy who wants to have rings embedded in their flesh, specifically so he can be dangled from hooks without taking the risk of tearing through a blood vessel (though it would still be incredibly painful; he has no delusions about that, and in fact anticipates it).
This one's been out-weirded long ago. Heck, I don't even have a problem with the concept, though I do think they should do the actual piercing in a bit cleaner and more controlled environment, to reduce the risk of injury, sickness, or death.
Are they THAT bored?
