Scientists at Johns Hopkins University have identified a gene called, I kid you not, "frizzle 6", that seems to control hair patterns in mice. While this at first seems to fall under the, "still no cure for cancer" category, these genes are also implicated in things like spinal neuron growth and blood vessel development. Just because it starts out obscure doesn't mean it'll stay that way.
