I used to have a black squirrel follow me one block to work each morning when I worked in DC.

I used to throw bits of my lunch at him to stay far back and I imagine he got the liking of free food for following someone.

First time I ever saw one it freaked me out. I'm so used to the ugly brown/grey squirrels, and then here comes this thing trotting across the road and it's pitch black! Scared the crap out of me!
