Most folks know about iron lungs... those enormous monstrosities people had to lie in so they could breathe, basically for the rest of their lives. They're obviously all gone now, so much so I'm not sure people younger than 20 even know what they are. I'd wondered what happened to them, and the people inside them, for years. A victim of polio, he now uses a much smaller portable device that allows him to live at home.
