Turns out Otzi, the European "ice man", gave almost as good as he got:
Blood from one person was found on the back of Otzi's cloak, and blood from two people was found on the same arrow in his quiver. Blood from a fourth person was found on the knife [once clutched in his hand].
Went down swinging, and died with his boots on. Be sure to mark your calendars for the new Discovery special, apparently airing August 24th.
Amazing the information you can get from DNA that old. I hope this doesn't turn out to be a hoax. I am becoming so cynical in my old age. But at least I don't trust George the Younger and his band of merry whackos.
Posted by: Pat on August 12, 2003 12:27 PMMy thoughs are that otzi was a carnivorous and he was himself hunting for humans. To me he doesn't look so innocent, after you see two different blood types on one of his arrows and maybe he was carrying his prize to later eat it, or ceremonial purposes and he was discovered by other villagers.for this intention they try to kill him and he scape to the mountains. all the things he was carrying were not his but things he might have sotlen from his victims. hmmmm doesn't it make you ponder?
Posted by: Victor Vasquez on November 19, 2004 11:20 PMActually, wouldn't you mean cannabalistic? However, that doesn't necessarily follow from the evidence, though it would present an interesting theory. My reasoning on this is the blood on his back should then at least match the blood on one of his weapons, which is doesn't. However, you'd need true forensic examination to determine the blood patterns to see if he was carrying someone. My guess is that when confronted by somewhere in the neighborhood of 4 people, he drew his knife and an arrow (to use as a stabbing weapon). After the initial fight where most of the assailants were wounded (where someone probably hit him on the back or tackled him - hence the blood), he managed to escape off into the distance (maybe it was night, stormy, not sure) and then died. Why? Because they likely wouldn't have left anything useful on him if they actually killed him.
